If you have ever noticed a group of girl scouts you have no doubt noticed that they all tend to have a large number of Girl Scout patches on their uniform. Many people do not realize the actual reason for the patches, but knowing what the patches stand for is very important. After all, the patch that is proudly displayed is how the girls show off what they know, without being rude. It is expected that a girl that has numerous patches is much more accomplished within the troop than others are, which is quite an honor.
Most patches are accompanied by several requirements that must be achieved in order to earn the patch. Much as a reward the Girl Scout patches are only awarded once certain skills have been mastered which can make it an excellent way to encourage your child to learn additional skills. Most patches are closely linked to activities that can be found and studied in their troop book and by increasing the number of patches that each girl has, it can also help them to increase their self-confidence.
It is important to realize that not all girls earn their patches at the same speed. Each girl has a different agenda in mind when they are working on their girl scout patches. Some girls like to rush through the activities and earn as many patches as possible while others like to be a bit more patient and take some time to really get the most benefit from the lessons. Regardless where you find your favorite little girl scout in the process, it is very important to support their efforts.
Working with an exceptional troop leader is extremely effective to help encourage the girls to reach for numerous Girl Scout patches, but always make sure you are working with a troop leader that is not just passing out patches for no reason at all. Rather look for a troop leader that encourages the growth necessary without just giving away patches for no reason at all. This will make it much easier to be sure; you are giving your daughter the best benefits possible, without creating additional stress in her life that is truly unnecessary.
